EMPRESS

EMPRESS is a non-governmental organization that promotes the concept of sustainable consumption and production and resource efficiency in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 2008 by SUEZ CZ (Czech branch of multinational SUEZ Environment group), ENVIROS (leading environmental and energy consultancy in the Czech Republic) and Masaryk University of Brno.

EMPRESS was established as a result of the Partnership for Sustainable Production and Services project. The project was aimed at creating a methodology for identification of opportunities for eco-efficient innovations in enterprises, and EMPRESS was set up as a platform for further application of these practices. In the following years, under umbrella of EMPRESS, several dozens of these projects were implemented in industrial enterprises and other organizations.

In the Czech Republic, EMPRESS represents important international networks and institutions whose mission is to support sustainable consumption and production and resource efficiency. These include the European network PREPARE, which EMPRESS chaired in 2012-2014, or the Global Network of Cleaner Production Centres supported by UNIDO and UNEP; at the same time, EMPRESS is part of the national structures within the EIONET network of the European Environment Agency.
